Yiwu Economy Profits 150 Billion from Exhibition Industry

  YIWU, 23 MARCH - A meeting was opened on the topic of how to boost the city’s economy through exhibition industry. An official on the meeting said that Yiwu can profit RMB150 billion from its well-developed exhibition industry every year.

    Yiwu’s history of exhibition can date back to 1995 when the first Yiwu Fair was opened. Now, it has become a famous exhibition city that successfully opened 42 fairs last year. In order to maintain the development of exhibition industry, a new expo center is being built and scheduled to be used in this year’s Yiwu Fair. What’s more, a convention center with capacity to accommodate 3800 people is also being built.
 
    Up to 22 March, only 200 of the 1500 booths of Yiwu Fair 2009 are still in vacancy. As the biggest trade show in Yiwu, it reached a trade volume of RMB 10.3 billion last year.
