Yiwu: Creating a Forest City, To Promote Social Harmony |

In 2007, the Yiwu Municipal Government and Yiwu Municipal Party Committee put forward the strategic target of creating a forest city with unprecedented intensity, depth and width, mobilizing all citizens to plunge in. Being a forest city is considered as a symbol of cities with a well-developed local economy and civilized society. If Yiwu is to construct a well-known international trade city, it needs favorable forestation and an eco-environment. Based upon this, Yiwu attaches great importance to the forest city-building work. At present, the forest coverage of Yiwu reaches 49.85%; while the forest-cover rate in built-up urban areas is 34.7%; and the public green land area per capita is 9.42 square meters. The next step is to carry out thorough and enduring activities concerning the forests and ecology with the guidance of a scientific development concept, constantly intensifying efforts to change our city into a forest city and striving to realize it as soon as possible.
